Butter Knife Girl
I decided that I was going to be an artist when I was in 6th grade, which was around the same time that I fell in love with fashion. So when I got the news that I had been selected to exhibit at Saks, I was so excited. The problem was I didn’t know what to draw. Nothing felt right. Weeks passed, when I came across a vintage photograph of a model freshening up her lipstick using the reflection of a butter knife. I walked directly to my easel, grabbed some charcoal and started.
Forty-five drawings later I had a collection. Every piece was created with the same charcoal and pastel set, and I chose newsprint because of how the natural fibers compliment the models.
I’m grateful to have worked on a project that combined two things that I love so much.
